My Work

Throughout my time at CMC, I have completed various papers, projects, and presentations. Below, I have highlighted some of my best work and my favorite assignments to work on.

01

I have been a member of the Steamboat campus' beekeeping club since I moved here, eventually becoming president. I also took both beekeeping classes offered. During that time, I wrote a paper about what people need to understand about the impacts that the invasive European Honeybee has on local ecosystems so that we can best protect native pollinators while continuing to keep bees as hobbyists.

02

In my first year of Sustainability Studies, I took a class called Foundations of Sustainability. Our final project was simply meant to answer the question "What is Sustainability to Me?" in a visual way. The only rule was "no powerpoints". I created the major arcana of a tarot deck. For my final presentation, I did a tarot reading treating issues in sustainability as the querent.

"The student turns to take the final step on his path, and finds that he is right back where he started, with an empty notebook. He understands that the scope of his knowledge is nothing more than a pinprick of ink on a blank page. A small planet in a great universe."

A history of kayaking in America and why Inuit history will always remain relevant

Written for Recreation Principles and Practices during my second year in the ORL program. This project was very fun to research, and is probably my best paper from my two-year degree.

How Art Influences the Environment in the United States

Written for American Environmental History during my first year in the ORL program.

Written for my Introduction to Environmental Science class during my second year in the ORL program.

For my Leadership class during my second year in the ORL program, I gave a presentation with two classmates on transformational leadership. Other students spoke about other types of leadership. While I unfortunately do not have the entire presentation, I am very proud of the power point I made for it!

In my Recreation Programming class during my second year, we each came up with a mock business and created a website for it. The assignment demonstrated our understanding of risk management, planning for adventures, and being prepared for incidents from the administrative side of the outdoor recreation industry. Much like creating this portfolio, this project was a blast and I am really proud of what I came up with. I would be thrilled to make this idea a reality some day.

08

During out Capstone course, the planning and preparation that we did was key to making sure our field course went well. I was really proud of the work I put in to make sure we had all of the information that we could before we left. While this was absolutely a team effort, my fingerprints are all over this document.

While this project was not something that was assigned by an instructor or even graded, I was very excited to create a playlist for my Environmental Science class in fall of 2020. The songs I chose are based on things I learned in that class and include suggestions from classmates, faculty, and CMC staff.

I wish I had something incredibly substantial to share to prove how much I learned and how hard I worked on this trip. My species lists? My final exam? My journals and drawings would probably be good. The truth is, that all pales in comparison to the community that we built during our two weeks in La Paz. The support, encouragement, and belonging that we felt was created by everyone's commitment to curiosity, honesty, growth, and empathy. I miss them every day.

As an extracurricular experience, I spent four days flying with EcoFlight to learn about Water in the West for their 2023 Flight Across America Program. I served as both student and educator during this journey, and my trip culminated in a presentation alongside two other students and two experts in the field.
